University Performing Arts Centre offers professional dance instruction for
every age. Classes start at the end of August and conclude with a recital
in late spring. Preschool classes are 45 minutes. Most other classes are 1 hour
or 1½ hour.
OUR CURRICULUM INCLUDES:
PRESCHOOL COMBINATION
for ages 3 to 5: A program involving tap,
pre-ballet, rhythm training, personality movements and tumbling. This
class is designed to develop coordination, grace, and flexibility for
the very young
INTRODUCTION TO DANCE
for ages 6 to 8: A beginning program involving tap,
ballet and jazz that introduces the young child to the various forms
of dance
TAP AND JAZZ, TAP AND BALLET, OR JAZZ AND BALLET
for ages 6 to 8: An intermediate program that enables the child to choose two different
areas of interest.
CLASSICAL BALLET
for ages 6 and older: A program directed towards
developing grace, poise and discipline through ballet technique. When
female students develop sufficient skill and strength, pointe work is
added to the instruction. Course is offered for beginner through
advanced levels.
TAP
for ages 7 and older: A program concentrating on rhythm and tap technique.
This course is offered for beginning through advanced levels.
JAZZ/HIP-HOP for ages 7 and older: A program that encompasses theatrical
dance as seen on stage, in movies, musical productions, and music
videos utilizing popular music. Course is offered for beginner through
advanced levels.
ACROBATICS for ages 7 and older: An acrobatic program encompassing floor
exercises and tumbling with the aid of mats.
MODERN/LYRICAL for ages 10 and older: A dance technique that increases
flexibility, strength and control of the various parts of the body.
BOYS CLASS for all ages: A program encompassing tap, jazz, and
tumbling in order to develop strength, coordination and flexibility.
ADULT PHYSICAL FITNESS A program designed for lively fun while
gaining the benefits of good exercise. Courses include jazz, ballet
and tap.
COMPETITION CLASS A program designed for the advanced student desiring to
rehearse specialty routines for the purpose of competing at regional
and national competitions.
